Letter re Single Payer Healthcare
Letter printed in the Los Angeles Times, August 22, 2007. The underlined sentences were removed by Times editors.
I agree with your editorial that the legislature needs to pass health care reform for Californians. You noted that eight "workshops" statewide were held for 3500 people, without noting that they were sponsored by insurance companies; however, once again the Times chose to ignore the thousands of people who attended the Health Care For All rally held at the Los Angeles City Hall on Saturday, August 11th. Ignored again were the multitude of civic, medical, and labor organizations who showed their support for single-payer health care. Ignored again are the conflicts of interest of insurance employees who are paid bonuses for denying more claims. Would society put up with judges who were paid bonuses for denying lawsuits? It is clear that the Times will not allow supporters of single-payer health care to receive any attention. This is another failure of the Times duty to report all points of view.
